Context/Comments Located near the site of the extinct river town, Grand Gulf. Scene of considerable military activity during the Federal campaign to capture Vicksburg. Confederate batteries here at Fort Wade and Fort Cobun repelled several Federal attacks. Existing earthworks are in a remarkable state of preservation. Purchase and development authorized by the 1958 Mississippi Legislature.
