Context/Comments
Built in 1912-13, this post office building was designed and begun under the direction of James Knox Taylor (1857-1929), Supervising Architect of the Treasury from 1897 to 1912, and was completed under the direction of Oscar Wenderoth (1871-1938), Supervising Architect of the Treasury from 1912 to 1915.

This building was individually listed on the National Register of Historic Places on 28 October 1983, and it was later included as a previously-listed element (#25) in the Downtown Brookhaven Historic District, which was placed on the National Register on 15 July 1999.

It is included in "Buildings of Mississippi" (2020) (p. 291, SC10).

Historic Information
This building was authorized on 30 May 1908, but as of 30 June 1909 no construction contract had been signed. There is information about this building in the "Annual Report of the Supervising Architect to the Secretary of the Treasury for the Fiscal Year Ended June 30, 1909" (1909) (p. 44), which says that a site had been secured by that time. There is some information about this building in the "Annual Report of the Supervising Architect to the Secretary of the Treasury for the Fiscal Year Ended June 30, 1918" (1918) (p. 64), which says that the building was completed and occupied in 1913.
