The Rosedale Plantation house was built c. 1891 by Milton C. Ewing. The house was originally center hall, double-pile planters’ cottage. The house grew organically as family needs changed over time. As ideas about personal space and hygiene changed over time, Rosedale Plantation proved to be adaptable to change meeting the needs of successive owners. Hand-carved decorative elements on the ceilings, walls, doors and elsewhere, attributed to Hanible Rutledge, represent a high degree of craftsmanship that is unique in Mississippi. The Rosedale Plantation house was listed on the National Register, with 5 acres of land, on 20 July 2011, from a nomination prepared by Robert Jordan, the property owner. |
