Shamrock was a good example of the I-house form typical of many unpretentious Mississippi plantation residences. However, it gained added architectural significance from its unusual combination of original vernacular features with stylish plaster ornamentation. This significance was further enhanced by the outstanding integrity of both the plantation setting and the architecture of the house. The house was destroyed by a fire in March 2015. It was listed on the National Register on 19 March 1982, with 170 acres of land, from a nomination prepared by consultant Mary Warren "Mimi" Miller. It is included in "Old Homes of Mississippi, Volume I: Natchez and the South" (1977) (p. 19). |
