Context/Comments
This two-story gable-front brick building was originally a bank on the lower story and a residence for the bank manager upstairs, and as such is very similar to the Farmers Bank Building in Fredericksburg, Virginia (1819-20). The main facade (below the pedimented front gable) is very similar to that of the Hermann-Grima House in New Orleans (1831-32). After many years of use as a private home, this building was acquired by the Vicksburg Council of Garden Clubs in 1956, and served as their meeting place for many years. In 1997 it was sold to be used again as a private home.

This building was individually listed on the National Register on 21 June 1971, from a nomination prepared by MDAH historian Clinton Bagley. The National Register documentation was amended to include the outbuildings on 21 October 1988. The property was designated a Mississippi Landmark on 18 November 1987.

Planters Hall is included in "Historic Architecture in Mississippi" (1973) (pp. 64-65), "Old Homes of Mississippi, Volume I: Natchez and the South" (1977, 1979) (pp. 94-95), "Mississippi Valley Architecture" (1984) (p. 75), the "Historic Vicksburg Walking Tour Guide" (1987) (#64, pp. 46-47), and "Vicksburg (Images of America)" (1999) (p. 32).
