Context/Comments
Termed a "modest skyscraper" upon its completion, the Hotel Vicksburg remains the tallest building in Vicksburg. Its exterior is well-detailed in the Colonial Revival style, while its interior, which is almost totally intact, combines Colonial Revival with Art Deco motifs. Construction of the hotel in 1928 was funded almost entirely with local capital and represented not only the growth and progress of Vicksburg in that decade, but also the city-planning efforts of local businessmen.

This building was individually listed on the National Register on 4 Jun 1979 from a nomination prepared by by MDAH architectural historian Adele Cramer. It was later included as element #16 in the Uptown Vicksburg Historic District, which was added to the National Register on 19 August 1993, and it was more recently included as element #20 in the Uptown Vicksburg Amendment and Boundary Increase No. 2, which was added to the National Register on 4 February 2020.

This building is included in "Historic Vicksburg Walking Tour Guide" (1987) (#37, p. 33) and "Buildings of Mississippi" (2020) (pp.73-74, YB8).

Brief Description
