Designed by architect H. E Ostling of Montgomery, Ala., the Union County Courthouse was built in 1909 by F. E. Dobson & Company, contractors. (This building is almost identical to the Fayette County Courthouse in Fayette, Alabama, which was built in 1911 from plans “furnished” by F. E. Dobson!) The courthouse was designated a Mississippi Landmark on 7 October 1986. It was individually listed on the National Register on 26 June 1990, and it was later included as a “previously listed” element (element #8) in the New Albany Downtown Historic District, which was placed on the National Register on 1 November 1996. This building is included in "Buildings of Mississippi" (2020) (p.172, NE24). |
