This one-acre site is the entire parcel of land acquired by the National Park Service to commemorate the Battle of Tupelo (or Battle of Harrisburg), which took place on 13-15 July 1864 over a much larger surrounding area. Although this commemorative site has been considered to be listed on the National Register as of 15 October 1966, because it was already a historic property managed by the National Park Service, it was apparently actually listed on the the National Register in 1976 (or perhaps documented for the National Register), from a nomination prepared in 1974 by William E. Cox, Assistant Chief Park Interpreter of the Natchez Trace Parkway. |
