Context/Comments
A five-bay story-and-a-half Federal Style galleried cottage with paneled, square box columns, Hawthorne is an outstanding example of a Natchez Federal cottage. The marked contrast between its cottage-like exterior and the grand scale of its interior spaces, coupled with the fineness of its millwork, sets its apart from other Federal-style cottages in the area.

This house was listed on the National Register on 3 July 1979, with 12.23 acres of surrounding land.

It is included in "Shrines to Yesterday" (1968), "The Majesty of Natchez" (1969/1981/1986) (p. 69), "Old Homes of Mississippi, Volume I: Natchez and the South" (1977) (p. 46), "The Great Houses of Natchez" (1986) (pp. 51-52), "Classic Natchez" (1996) (pp. 88-89), "Natchez Images, 1880-1960" (2002) (p. 51), "Natchez: Houses and History …" (2003) (pp. 84-87), and "Louisiana Architecture 1820-1840" (2005) (pp. 57-58).
