This park was begun in 1935 and opened in 1938. It was originally named Spring Lake State Park, but was renamed in 1956 in honor of U.S. Senator Wall Doxey. It was the eighth of ten parks built in Mississippi by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s. The older part of this park was listed on the National Register on 1 Dec 1997 as the Wall Doxey State Park Historic District.
Wall Doxey State Park is included in "Buildings of Mississippi" (2020) (p. 150, NC17). |
