| The McRae’s department store building at the Meadowbrook Mart shopping center was built in 1962 as a rebuilding and substantial enlargement of an earlier McRae’s store at that location that had been built in 1954-55. The original building had been the first suburban store of the McRae’s company, whose main location was then in downtown Jackson. As completed in 1962, the McRae’s store at Meadowbrook Mart was Jackson's first full-service department store in a suburban context. The McRae’s store at Meadowbrook Mart closed in 2005. The building was listed on the National Register on 3 March 2015, from a nomination prepared by Michael W. Fazio. Despite being listed on the National Register, the building was demolished in August 2022.
Although a Mississippi Landmark Significance Report was prepared in 2015, the building was not designated a Mississippi Landmark |
