Weathers, Patrick Henry (b.1870 - d.1940)
Architect, New Orleans/Jackson, MS/Oklahoma
Born in Calhoun Co., Alabama. Studied architecture under Eugene T. Heiner of Houston, TX, and later worked with his uncle L. M. WEATHERS as WEATHERS & WEATHERS, located in Memphis, TN. Moved to Jackson in 1901 and set up his own practice. As WEATHERS & WEATHERS, evaluated the Old Capitol in Jackson in 1896, and submitted an unsuccessful plan in competition for the new Mississippi State Capitol, in 1897 and again in 1901. Designed Tensas Parish Courthouse (1906) in St. Joseph, LA. He was still listed in the Jackson City Directory for 1904-05, with offices at 123½ N. State St. Briefly affiliated with J.B. Lewman & Co., Archts. and Engineers, he broke that connection in 1906 to establish his own practice, based in Kansas City, MO, as P.H. Weathers & Co. However, he is still referred to as residing in Jackson in Dunbar Rowland's 1907 "Mississippi" Vol. 3. By 1911, he was working as the State Architect of Oklahoma. Listed with offices in Oklahoma in the 1920 "Directory of American Architects," Southern Architect and Building News (Apr 1920, p. 9). See Rowland, Dunbar, Mississippi, Vol. 3, p. 904 for background information, also NR nomination for Jackson Central Fire Station. See also Kingsley, Buildings of Louisiana, pp. 318, 404, 450-451.
