Hull, William Sharkey (b.1848 - d.1924)

see also F.B. & W.S. HULL (1876-1904). Bid on Hancock County CH in 1910, but was not chosen. Designed Franklin Parish CH (Winnsboro), built 1903 (demolished 1951); Grant Parish CH (Colfax) in 1901-1902 (supervised by archt. Sam Erving; demolished 1954) and is credited with the Columbia and Jena Parish Courthouses in LA. He was born in Mississippi, with an Irish father and Mississippian mother. He was the brother of FRANCIS B. HULL (the contractor), but the age gap between the two was 30 years, so perhaps they were half brothers. He apparently spend some part of his adulthood as a resident of Alabama, as he was appointed in 1893 to represent that state at the Columbian Exhibition. He died August 4, 1924 and is buried in Greenwood Cemetery. Listed in the Directory of American Cement Industries and Handbook for Cement Users (1902) under the heading "Engineers, Architects and Other Supervisors of the Use of Cement" (p. 632). Listed with office on Livingston Rd., Jackson, in "Directory of Southern Architects" in Southern Architect and Building News, Vol. 32, #2 (Dec 1913), pp. 43-45. Listed as a member of the Louisiana chapter of the AIA in 1924, before the creation of the MS chapter. He became a member or "Fellow" of the Western Association of Architects in 1887, with an office listed in Dallas, TX. He was one of the founding members of the Mississippi Art Association in 1911.
