Biloxi City Hospital, founded in 1919 (or 1908?), moved to this building (then referred to as the “New Biloxi Hospital”) in 1929. The institution moved to a new building in 1963 (now the Biloxi Regional Medical Center), at which time this building became a convalescent home. In 1984 it became the Biloxi Regional Outreach Treatment Center, and later a drug rehabilitation center called the Bienville Recovery Center, which closed in the early 1990s. In June 1998 the Biloxi Specialty Hospital, a long-term, acute care facility, began operation in the building. (See article, “Long-term hospital begins test,” Sun Herald, June 7, 1998.) This building is pictured in "Biloxi (Images of America)" (2009) (p. 71). |
