From Mississippi Landmark Significance Report, Dec. 11, 2013, by Katherine Anderson, MDAH: The National Guard Armory is a symmetrical, Art Moderne style building with a flat roof over the front section and a barrel vault roof over the auditorium at the back. The primary façade consists of a two-story, central bay with a recessed entryway flanked by pylon-like projections. Built in 1938, it is identical to the National Guard Armory in Amory, which was designated a Mississippi Landmark in 2002. The building is an excellent example of the Art Moderene style of Overstreet and Town. It is now used as a JROTC building by the Franklin County School District. |
