Designed by the firm of Overstreet, Spencer & Payne and built in 1913-14, the Franklin County Courthouse is an outstanding Mississippi example of an early twentieth-century classical public building. It is the most monumental and architecturally significant twentieth-century building in Franklin County. The interior and exterior integrity of the courthouse building is excellent, and the only major alteration to the building occurs at the southwest corner, where a two-story brick addition was made to the rear for extra courthouse space. This building was listed on the National Register on 17 December 1981. It was designated a Mississippi Landmark on 24 October 1985. |
