| Built in 1928-29, this octagonal building with four porticoes, surmounted by a dome, serves as the visual centerpiece of the University and as its architectural symbol. This building is listed as an element (#1) in the University of Southern Mississippi Historic District, which was placed on the National Register on 10 March 2010. It was designated a Mississippi Landmark on 20 August 1986. It is included in "The State of Mississippi – Historic Properties" (1982) (p. 7) and "Buildings of Mississippi" (2020) (p. 323, in the listing for the University of Southern Mississippi, PW38). |
