| A two-story brick house that was the home of noted black educator William H. Holtzclaw from the 1920s until his death in 1943. The house served as Gin Line Elementary School from 1946 to 1966. After 1969 it stood vacant and deteriorating for many years. It was designated a Mississippi Landmark on 24 January 1991. In 2002-03, architectural drawings and a condition assessment report were prepared for the building by architect Robert Parker Adams, funded by an African American Heritage Grant (authorized by House Bill No. 1682, Laws of Mississippi, 2000), but the building continued to deteriorate. The building was demolished in November 2014. The building is included in "The State of Mississippi – Historic Properties" (1982) (p. 10). |
