The Mary Holmes Junior College, founded in 1897 as the Mary Holmes Seminary, served as a private educational facility for African-Americans. During the period of segregated schools, private schools like Mary Holmes educated the majority of African-American teachers working in public schools, serving as a focal point for black education in Mississippi. The Administration Building, completed in 1940, was a frame Colonial Revival building, with applied classical details on the window and door surrounds. It was a major contributing element of the Mary Holmes Junior College Historic District. It was demolished in 2017. |
