Context/Comments
This one-story brick building was constructed in 1894 to serve as the passenger and freight depot for Aberdeen Branch of the Illinois Central Railroad. It is shown on the December 1894 Sanborn map of West Point (sheet 3). This building was originally listed on the National Register in 1982 as a contributing element (element #47) in the West Point Central City Historic District. When that district was included within the larger West Point Unified Historic District, which was placed on the National Register in 2009, the former Illinois Central depot was included as a previously-listed element (element #353). It was designated a Mississippi Landmark in 1994. The building now serves as the Sam Wilhite Transportation Museum.
