| Tibbee School is the most intact and representative of the six one-room schoolhouses that were still extant in Clay County when documented in 1991. The significance of these schools is addressed in the Educational Resources section of the historic context documentation for the Clay County Multiple Property submission (pg. 8). This school was apparently built about 1890, as it is similar in its architectural details to houses built in the area about that time. Classes in the building apparently ceased about 1910, after which local children were transported daily to a consolidated school in nearby West Point. This building was listed on the National Register on 15 November 1991, as a part of the Clay County Multiple Resource Area, from a nomination prepared by Joan Embree. |
