Brief Description
This Modernist medical laboratory is generally L-shaped and two stories with a float roof. It is reinforced and masonry construction with a red brick veneer. Its façade (north) faces E. Stadium Drive and the primary entrance is recessed between two projecting wings. This entrance features three bays separated by full-height steel columns. The central bay of the entryway is comprised of a sliding mechanized metal door with narrow transom. The side bays are 4 over 4, large, plate glass windows. The wing that projects from the west end of the façade contains 9 narrow bays. These bays are distinguished by a full-height gray-stuccoed concrete course with central steel column. On either side of the steel is a single, square fixed window. The prominent north-south wing is distinguished by its plain exterior. Originally, the projection on the west side had vivid blue tile cladding, but this was removed and refaced with brick c.2000. Each floor features a long, ribbon window of clerestory windows creating a horizontal band appearance. (Hill-Burton Survey, 2019)
