Context/Comments
The Shaw Homestead is a very intact homestead from the early years of settlement in Pearl River County, containing a log house built about 1890 and several outbuildings.

This property was listed on the National Register on 24 January 2019.

Brief Description
One-story, three-bay dogtrot of log construction. Side-gable roof. Full-width shed-roof porch supported by paired 2x4's with central 2x4 bracing. The center passage was enclosed on the main facade and open at the rear. The three entry doors are board-and-batten. Windows are 4/4 wood DHS. The house has a log foundation, some beadboard cladding (along left/north elevation), half-dovetail notching with no visible chinking, a brick chimney, and a metal roof. The rear, full-width shed-roof porch has been partially enclosed with clapboards, forming two rooms. Logs were planed on two sides and rounded on the interior/exterior walls. There appears to be no chinking. The gap is a bout .5".
Historic Information
Bernard Dedeaux built the house as two separate cabins during the 1880's. His brother-in-law, Jules Ladner, acquired the property and altered it into a dogtrot. Melvina Ladner Shaw (daughter of Jules) and her husband Gilbert Shaw (m. 1902) inherited the house. The property was involved in the timber industry and sheep rearing (1906-1958). This ended when stock laws requiring fencing were passed, and open range stock grazing ceased. In 2006 the Land Trust for the MS Coastal Plain acquired ownership of the property.
