Designed by the firm of Bartlett & Budemeyer, this distinctive Moorish-style synagogue was built in 1891-92. The congregation became inactive in the 1980s or 90s, and the Lum family acquired the building. It was designated a Mississippi Landmark, at the request of the Lum family, on 1 November 1995. In May 2003 it was being used by a group called the Messianic Congregation Beit Lechem. It is included in "Architecture in Claiborne County, Mississippi" (1974) (p.31), "America’s Religious Architecture" (1997) (p.289), "Historic Churches of Mississippi" (2007) (pp.126-127), "Must See Mississippi" (2007) (pp.150-153), and "Buildings of Mississippi" (2020) (p.62, ND74). |
