Context/Comments
An outstanding example of Carpenter Gothic church architecture, this building was built about 1867-68 as Sacred Heart Catholic Church in the town of Rodney. In 1894, it was the setting for the christening of the future Most Reverend Bishop Charles P. Greco, Bishop of the Diocese of Alexandria (Louisiana). Bishop Greco was the first Mississippian to become a Roman Catholic Bishop. After the church had become inactive, the building was moved to Grand Gulf Military Park in 1987.

The former Sacred Heart Church was listed on the National Register on 23 Nov 1987. It was designated a Mississippi Landmark on 11 October 1985.

It is included in "Shrines to Tomorrow" (1971), "Historic Architecture in Mississippi" (1973) (p. 62), and "Historic Churches of Mississippi" (2007) (p. 125). [HABS: MS-208]
