Built about 1936-38, the former Ranger Residence at Choctaw Lake is one of Mississippi's best examples of rustic park architecture built by various federal relief agencies during the Great Depression. Most structures surviving from the 1930's located on National Forest land in Mississippi were constructed by the Civilian Conservation Corps, but the Choctaw Lake Ranger Residence was constructed as a part of a larger recreational complex under the oversight of the Works Progress Administration for the Soil Conservation Service. This building was listed on the National Register on 25 Jul 2001. |
