Context/Comments

A wood-frame, two-story Greek Revival house that was remodeled into a more eclectic style following its purchase by Edgar S. Elliott in 1876. The house has a distinctive porch, consisting of a three-bay projecting colonnade of octagonal columns, the center bay of which steps forward to form a distyle portico. The house is one of only two antebellum buildings in Chickasaw County. The house is locally known as the place to which Confederate Gen. Nathan Bedford Forrest was brought to recover from a wound sustained in a Union raid on Okolona in January, 1865.

This house was listed on the National Register on 15 September 1980, and it was later included as a "previously listed" element (element #9) in the Okolona Historic District, which was placed on the National Register on 5 February 2002.
