Legion State Park was begun in 1934 and was opened in 1937. It was the fourth of ten parks built in Mississippi by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s. The older area of this park was was designated a Mississippi Landmark on 25 January 1995 and was placed on the National Register as the Legion State Park Historic District on 5 Nov 1998. Legion State Park is included in “Buildings of Mississippi” (2020) (p.207, CH20). |
