This was a large, elegant two-story porticoed mansion in the “Bracketed Greek Revival” style. It was destroyed by fire in 1942.

Before it burned, this house was documented in 1936 by the Historic American Buildings Survey (HABS), as MS-110, with photographs of the interior as well as the exterior.

The site of the house was listed on the National Register on 25 August 1970.

"Malmaison" is included in "White Pillars" (1941) (pp. 98-101), "Old Homes of Mississippi, Volume II: Columbus and the North" (1977) (p. 143), "Lost Mansions of Mississippi" (1996) (pp. 64-66), and "Lost Plantations of the South" (2009) (pp. 159-167).
