Context/Comments
The congregation of this church was organized in 1836 as Ebenezer Church. The name was changed to College Church in 1841, in reference to the nearby North Mississippi College (which operated from 1840 to 1860). The historic Greek Revival sanctuary building of the church was constructed in 1846 on land that was donated in 1842. An addition was made to the rear of the building about 1940. A new education building was erected just north of the original building in 1970. The church building was listed on the National Register on 13 November 1979, from a nomination prepared by Jack Gold of MDAH.

This building was severely damaged by a fire on 13 August 2022 that completely destroyed the interior, but the exterior brick walls and the columns of the portico survived.

This building is included in "Look to the Rock: One Hundred Ante-bellum Presbyterian Churches of the South" (1961), "Shrines to Tomorrow" (1971), "Old Homes of Mississippi, Volume II: Columbus and the North" (1977) (pp. 104-105), "Historic Churches of Mississippi" (2007) (p. 117), and "Buildings of Mississippi" (2020) (p.158, NC26).
