| The home of Isaiah Thornton Montgomery, who had been a slave of Jefferson Davis and was a co-founder of the all-black town of Mound Bayou in 1887. Following the chartering of the town in 1912, Montgomery served as its first mayor. He died in 1924. This building was designated a National Historic Landmark (and thereby concurrently listed on the National Register) on 11 May 1976. It was later included as a "previously listed" element (element #51) in the Mound Bayou Historic District, which was placed on the National Register on 11 September 2013. It was designated a Mississippi Landmark on 13 August 2003. It is included in "The Majesty of the Mississippi Delta" (2002) (p. 82) and "Buildings of Mississippi" (2020) (pp. 117-118, DR33).
