Context/Comments
This monument was included as a contributing element (element #49d) in the original Uptown Vicksburg Historic District, which was placed on the National Register on 19 August 1993, and it was more recently included as a previously-listed element (element #53d) in the Uptown Vicksburg Amendment and Boundary Increase No. 2, which was added to the National Register on 4 February 2020.

It was recorded as part of the “Save Outdoor Sculpture!” project in 1994. (See SOS-WAR-001.)

Brief Description
The World War I Memorial is a granite monument erected to honor the memory of those Vicksburg and Warren County soldiers killed in World War I. The granite pier is flanked on the west by a nearly life-size granite statue of an infantryman and and on the east by statue of a sailor.
