Context/Comments
This two-story Classical Revival public school building was built in 1949. It was included in the "List of Outstanding School Buildings" published in the 1950-51 edition of "The American School and University."

It is listed as a contributing element (element #47) in the Grove Street-Jackson Street Historic District, which was placed on the National Register on 21 November 2007.

It is included in the "Historic Vicksburg Walking Tour Guide" (1987) (#47, pp. 39-40).

Brief Description
A two-story brick school building, facing south, with an asphalt-covered gable roof pierced by a wooden lantern in the middle of the roof. There is a two-story pedimented portico supported by round fluted Corinthian columns. There are twenty bays: three sets of double-leaf glazed doors capped with a transom panel and casement windows.
