Designed by architect James T. "Jack" Canizaro of Jackson, this building was constructed in 1955 to serve as the gymnasium for the St. Francis Xavier School. Because of its date of construction in the 1950s, this building was originally listed as a non-contributing element (element #24) in the Uptown Vicksburg Historic District, which was added to the National Register on 19 August 1993. More recently its status was changed to contributing when it was included as element #27 in the Uptown Vicksburg Amendment and Boundary Increase No. 2, which was added to the National Register on 4 February 2020. It is mentioned in "Buildings of Mississippi" (2020) (p.79, in the listing for the Historic St. Francis Xavier School and Convent, YB18). |
