Context/Comments
Built as the original Boys' Dormitory for the Tate County Agricultural High School in 1914-1915; reorganized as Northwest Mississippi Junior College in 1927. Additions made in 1938 under the Federal Emergency Administration.

As one of only two original buildings on the Northwest Mississippi Community College campus, Tate Hall represents the establishment of the school as an agricultural high school and its growth into a regional community college serving more than 8000 students. Agricultural high schools (AHS) were established across Mississippi in the early part of the 20th century, and Mississippi was considered a leader nationally in the agricultural high school and later junior college movements. Of the sixty-one agricultural high school campuses identified around the state, only a handful of buildings remain from the AHS period, including the dormitory building at Clay County Agricultural High School [NRHP 11/15/1991].
