The Corinth National Cemetery is historically significant as one of the sites associated with the Siege of Corinth (April 28-May 30, 1862) and the Battle of Corinth (October 3-4, 1862) during the Civil War. It is also significant as one of the military cemeteries of National Cemetery system.

It is one of several properties listed as components of Siege and Battle of Corinth National Historic Landmark, which was designated as such on 9 May 1991. It was later individually listed on the National Register on 20 November 1996 for its importance as a National Cemetery.
