| This facility was under construction in 1927-29, and had fully opened by 1935, by which time the old Mississippi State Hospital for the Insane in Jackson (049-JAC-1681-X) had closed. It currently serves as the state’s primary public mental health center. The attractive and well-maintained park-like campus contains a substantial group of red-brick Colonial Revival buildings. The hospital complex is included in "Buildings of Mississippi" (2020) (pp. 283-284, JM84).
Although a Mississippi Landmarks Significance Report for the campus was prepared in 2013, the property was not listed as a Mississippi Landmark |
