| Located in an area of Mississippi marked by a lack of native stone, Hebron Academy, built 1860-61, is a rare example of nineteenth-century vernacular masonry architecture in the state. The single-room schoolhouse, constructed with two types of locally quarried stone, is of fine proportion and workmanship and is complimented by a propitious wooded setting. Surviving basically unaltered, it is one of the earliest and most unusual extant rural school buildings in the state. This building was listed on the National Register on 5 May 1978. It was designated a Mississippi Landmark on 14 November 1986. |
