The Magnolia Depot, built in 1893, is one of the oldest extant railroad depots in Mississippi. The depot was the entry point to Magnolia during its days as a turn of the century resort. The building retains its original floor plan with a large baggage handling area, ticket office and dual waiting rooms. Although there have been some alterations, the building retains many turn-of-the-century picturesque architectural elements such as shingled-gable ends, irregular fenestration (including a bay window) and geometrically-placed transoms and upper sashes. This building was listed on the National Register on 11 October 1984 as a component of the “Historic Resources of Magnolia.” It was designated a Mississippi Landmark on 14 September 2006. It is mentioned in "Buildings of Mississippi" (2020) (p. 299, in the listing for Magnolia’s Resort Era Buildings, SC23). |
