Built in 1940-41 under the auspices of the Federal Works Agency, this post office building was designed and built under the direction of Louis A. Simon (1867-1958), Supervising Architect of the Treasury from 1933 to 1939 and subsequently Supervising Architect for the Public Buildings Administration of the Federal Works Agency. It contains a mural by Douglas Crockwell, completed and installed in 1944. |
|
A one-story, hip-roofed building, clad in reddish-brown brick, with segmental-arched fenestration. It differs from similar post office buildings in Batesville and Charleston, Mississippi, by having a small projecting porch of lacy ironwork sheltering the front entrance. |
