Context/Comments
The Old Noxubee County Jail of 1870 is a very rare surviving example in Mississippi of a jail building from the Reconstruction period.

It was individually listed on the National Register on 3 January 1991, and it was later included as a “previously listed” element (element #222) in the Macon Historic District, which was placed on the National Register in 2002. It was designated a Mississippi Landmark on 21 April 1987.

This building is included in "Buildings of Mississippi" (2020) (p. 190, in the listing for the Courthouse Square, PR35).
