Context/Comments
This building was built in 1908 as Central Baptist Church. It now serves as the Newton City Hall. The attribution to P.J. Krouse is based on this building's similarity to the Old Temple Beth Israel (1906) in Meridian, which was designed by Krouse and built by C.H. Dabbs.

The city hall building was designated a Mississippi Landmark in 1986.

It is included in "Buildings of Mississippi" (2020) (p. 225, within the listing for the Alabama & Vicksburg Railroad Depot. EM28).
