Designed by architect R.H. Hunt of Chattanooga, Tenn., and built in 1912, the First Methodist Church of Aberdeen is a Gothic Revival auditorium-plan church of brick construction, with concentric curved seating on a diagonal axis. (Capitol Street Methodist Church in Jackson had an identical plan.) It is listed as a contributing element (element #16) in the in the North Aberdeen Historic District, which was placed on the National Register on 22 April 1988. This building is included in "Historic Architecture in Mississippi" (1973) (pp. 141-142) and "Historic Churches of Mississippi" (2007) (p. 4). |
