Built in 1837, the Chalmers Institute building is the second-oldest surviving school building in the state. It housed a sequence of early educational institutions before the Civil War. The building was individually listed on the National Register on 28 June 1982, as a component of the "Historic Resources of Holly Springs" (Holly Springs Multiple Resource Area [MRA]). It was designated a Mississippi landmark, at the owners' request, in 2003. This building is included in "Buildings of Mississippi" (2020) (p.145, in the listing for the Southwest Residential District, NC9). |
