Reputed by some to have been built in 1812, "Twin Oaks" apparently replaced an earlier house named "White Cottage" which burned in the early 1850s. Built for prominent Natchez attorney, educator, and representative to the state legislature Charles L. Dubuisson (?-1870), Dubuisson sold Twin Oaks in 1856 and moved to a plantation in Yazoo County. This house was listed on the National Register on 13 October 1983, with approximately 6 acres of land. It is included in "Shrines to Yesterday" (1968), "The Majesty of Natchez" (1969/1981/1986) (pp. 53-54), "Old Homes of Mississippi, Volume I: Natchez and the South" (1977) (pp. 68-69), and "The Great Houses of Natchez" (1996) (pp. 116-117). |
