Context/Comments
One of several buildings in Columbus designed by regionally prominent architect R.H. Hunt, the City Hall was built in 1903. It is a contributing element (element #46) in the Columbus Central Commercial Historic District, which was placed on the National Register in 1980. It was designated as a Mississippi Landmark in 1984.

This building is included in "Buildings of Mississippi" (2020) (p.182, PR17).
Historic Information
A jail was added to the rear of the City Hall in 1938 (Public Works Administration Project Miss. 1145). The jail was demolished about 2003.
