The Mt. Pleasant Methodist Church, built c. 1892, is an excellent example of Carpenter Gothic church architecture. Mt. Pleasant Methodist Church was established in 1833. In 1851 Judge John Perkins donated the land for a new church, which was built c. 1854. The present church was built by a local builder, David Parker Tunnell. The church is largely intact, with unpainted interior tongue-in-groove pine board in a herringbone pattern. There are modern utilities in the building. The National Register nomination was written by church historian Harold Wright. |
