The Wharlest and Exerlena Jackson House is historically significant as the home of Wharlest Jackson, Sr., a leader in the Civil Rights movement in Natchez in the 1960s, who was assassinated by car bomb in 1967. His murder remains unsolved. This house was listed as element #289 in the Woodlawn District, which was placed on the National Register on 7 November 1995. It was later individually listed on the National Register on 5 June 2017 for its importance in the history of th Civil Rights movement in Mississippi. |
