The Lamar Hotel was built in 1927. It now contains county government offices. It was originally listed on the National Register in 1979 as a contributing element of the Meridian Urban Center Historic District, and is now counted as a previously-listed element (element #122) in the Downtown Meridian Historic District, which superseded the earlier district when it was placed on the Register in 2007. The building was designated a Mississippi Landmark in 1988. This building is included in "Buildings of Mississippi" (2020) (p. 214, within the listing for the Lauderdale County Courthouse, EM7). |
