Context/Comments
This one-story, wood-frame galleried cottage was built c.1856 for James H. Boyd, mayor of Jackson in 1842-1844, 1850, and 1858. It was acquired in 1960 by the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America in Mississippi, abd is now operated as a house museum.

It was individually listed on the National Register on 25 May 1973, and more recently was included as element #65 (previously listed) in the expansion of that district, as “Belhaven Heights Historic District (Revision/Amendment)” which was added to the National Register on 3 September 1998. It was designated a Mississippi Landmark, upon owner request, on 11 September 2002.

This house is included in "Jackson Landmarks" (1982) (p. 88), "The Majesty of Eastern Mississippi and the Coast" (2004) (pp.57-59), and "Buildings of Mississippi" (2020) (p.254, JM39). [HABS: MS-211 (1972)]
